6-a-side tournament in Karlsruhe

Cricket in Germany is played in different regions and teams from different regions get little chance to meet each other. This gave the birth to idea of organizing cricket event where cricketers from different region have a chance to meet each other in very cricket enviroment i.e. competing on the ground and becoming friends as game goes on. Karlsruhe being the epicenter of new cricket region of Badenwürtemberg grasp this idea and made it reality through its yearly organized 6-a-side tournament.

Karlsruhe 6-a-side tournament is an entertaining and exciting opportunity for cricket enthusiasts from all over Germany. Teams from different regions, with 6-players per team contest other teams for 5-overs a-side match, in a whole-day event. This year we had an opportunity to invite guest teams from different parts of Germany with explosive talents and hard-hitting batsmen.

The participating teams were:

· SC-Riedberg (2011 T-20 German Champion)
· Frankfurt-Walldorf KXI (2012 HCV Champion)
· Dusseldorf (2010 NRWCU Champion)
· Karlsruhe (2012 BWCV Champion)
· Offenbach (2012 T-20 HCV Champion)
· TSG-Rohrbach
· Frankfurt-Corinthians
· Dortmund CC
· FC Türk Hattersheim
· Cosmopolitan Mannheim

The above participating teams were divided into 3 groups followed by play-offs, semi-finals and the final. Dortmund CC, Karlsruhe, Walldorf KXI, and SC-Riedberg qualified for the semi-finals. The final was played between Walldorf KXI and SC-Riedberg, which was won by Riedberg.

In total 17 games were played with great zeal and gave enough oppertunities for each team to show their skills. This speaks of the day’s succes in it-self and was well appreciated by all participating teams and visitors. Participating teams played great cricket with best of spirit. At the end of day, a greater objective of bringing diverse and regional best players together on a single day was achieved with satisfication.

The morning games were played in two grounds. I thank Karlsruhe Cricket Managment in offering their pitch for morning games. As German T-20 was planned in KCC’s ground which limited the participation of number of teams: Next year, with advance planning and same cooperation between Karlsruhe Cricket Club and Cricket Lions Karlsruhe, we plan to have 16 teams playing on two grounds for whole day next year. We hope to have more diversity and more regions joining us.
