Last Sunday the representative teams from the Berlin Cricket Kommittee and the Bayerischer Cricket Verband met on the Maifeld in Berlin to contest this year’s final for the DCB Bundesliga Pokal, the competition that sees the best regional teams play each other each year.
The Bavarians were looking to defend their title from 2011 after a semi final victory over the team from Baden-Würtemberg. The hosts were looking to win the competition for the first time in four years after defeating Northern Germany in the previous round.
The visitors were first to bat on a pitch that had drained very well after heavy overnight rain. Bavaria got off to a reasonable start with national team player Milan Fernando hitting out in the opening overs before being clean bowled by Usnan Khan for 28 with teh score at 43. The Bavarians would not have been too concerned at this stage but the Berlin bowlers then proceeded to keep ths core in check and take wickets at regular intervals. Only one more Bavarian batsman got into double figures as the champions were bowled out for a poor 112. Top bowlers were Usman Khan with 4-23 as well as Irfan Mohammed with 4-17 off 10 overs.
The Berliners set off in a cautious manner, making sure that they did not lose early wickets. First man out was Regan Ryan for 21 with the score on 46. His opening partenr Asif Ramzou was not disturbed by this as he scored a half century off 70 balls before falling for 57. The rest of the Berlin team eased to the target score for the loss of only three wickets off 30 overs, a more than deserved victory for the BCK. Man-of-the-match was Usman for his excellent swing bowling in the first innings.
The DCB would like to thank all those that helped, especially umpires Sajid Sekander and Husnain Mahr, as well as the scorers and the BCK for hosting the event.
