DCB Youth Programme 2012 well under way
The DCB’s youth programme for 2012, co-ordinated by DCB youth officer Sajid Sekander is already reaping benefits. The last three weeks has seen Sajid travelling the length and breadth of Germany looking for talented young cricketers in a number of trials at under 18 level. The idea behind this is to choose a squad of fourteen players to represent Germany in a four nation tournament with France, Belgium and Luxembourg to be held in Karlsruhe between 3rd-5th August.
The trials in Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich have been successful in that Sajid has been able to identify the most talented individuals for his squad as well as pick out a number of younger players who have the potential to represent DCB youth sides in the coming years.
The large amount of youth work being done throughout the country means that we are also in a position to hold our first ever DCB Youth County Championship this year. The first round of games will be held this weekend in Hamburg where the teams from Eastern Germany, Northern Germany and NRW will do battle in a T20 round robin championship. The following week the show will move on to Karlsruhe where the teams from Hessen, Bavaria and Baden-Würtemberg will compete against each other. A final will take place on 21st July at a location still to be determined.
Next stops for the U18 German team:
28th July – one day training camp in Oldenburg, Niedersachsen
3rd August – Germany vs. France
4th August – Germany vs. Belgium
5th August – Germany vs. Luxembourg
