German-Championship Semi-final: Waldorf-Frankfurt vs SSC-Cricket Lions Karlsruhe (CLK)

Print Friendly

On a sunny hot day, Waldorf won the toss and decided to bat first. CLK opening bowlers Usman and Waheed started with control and swing on offer. Waldorf lost their opener in Xth over and collapse started when top order batsmen could not face the first change bowlers Riaz Butt and Umair Ahmad. Waldorf was 37/3 after 14 overs when their most senior and reliable batsmen Bader and Att-ur-rehman had put their heads down, oversaw the first change bowlers and waited for CLK to make mistakes. Just before the second drink break, Atta-ur-rehmand got out by getting stumped on Imran’s bowling but Bader kept his shots going on after the drink breaks as well. All changed again when Usman came back to bowling and took 4 wickets in quick session to finish the inning on 182 runs in 40th overs.

In theory the target of 183 was not difficult but excellent opening bowling by Mudasir and Akmal made it look impossible. CLK were 36/3 in 14 overs. At the stage, Waheed and Janardhan kept their head down and played an important partnership of the game. Waldorf used their spinner with guile and intellegence and did not give any chance for CLK to take away the game. After partnership was broken the CLK wickets came in quick sessions.  CLK were 8 down while still 60 odd runs required in the last 10 overs. At this stage,  Riaz Butt and Sajid Siqandar went on offence with some great running between the wicket. Sajid got run-out when CLK needed yet another 30 odd runs in 5 overs with only one wicket to spare. Game again looked that its won by walldorf but CLK had other plans by having their opening batsmen Samit kept at 10th down.  Considering  11th down batsmen at strike, Walldorf went on attack to get the last wicket but in response we saw the drives (lofted cover drives) of the day in very last two overs. Samit took CLK home with 3 balls to spare.

Whole day, Frankfurt saw a great game of cricket where all participants enjoyed ever changing game of cricket and with both teams never giving up till the last ball for bowled.  Most certainly people present there rated the game to be one of the best played in recent past. CLK thanks HCV, DCB and Walldorf to host such a great game of cricket.

Summary:

Walldorf 182/10 in 40 overs.
Bader 80, Atta-ur-rehman 33, Usman 4 wickets.
CLK 184/9 in 49.3 overs.
Waheed 37, Janardhan 32, Kashif 3 wickets.
