Indian students in Dortmund rediscover their love for cricket
The trend for German universities to hold masters courses in the English language has seen a huge influx of students from the sub-continent in recent years. Many Pakistani, Bangladeshi or Indian students probably think that moving to Germany means leaving their favourite sport behind at home. The truth is very different.
Many DCB members have been boosted by foreign students and some clubs have even been formed by a group of students. Some universities have actually become DCB members themselves such as the Jacobs University in Bremen or Kaiserslautern University, not forgetting the DCB founder members from the University of Göttingen.
A group of Indian students at the Technical University in Dortmund recently contacted the DCB about the prospects of playing cricket here and out of this a new club is being formed. Together with a group of cricketers from neighbouring Essen, the Ruhr Valley International Cricket Club is being formed and hopes to be accepted as a DCB member and to play DCB Bundesliga from next season.
If other universities are interested in forming cricket clubs, please contact DCB General Manager Brian Mantle at manager@cricket.de
