Rheinaue All-Whites vs. St. Georges School
St George’s won the toss and elected to field. Bonn scored steadily with Joshua Newton, coming in at 3, top- scoring with 23 runs. Daniel Newton contributed a useful 14 not out runs. Of the Cologne bowlers, Lloen Fernandez had figures of 4-0-5-1 and Matthew McElhenny 4-0-7-1.
The early Cologne batsman found scoring difficult against some impressive bowling from Daniel Newton 4-0-5-4 and Joshua Newton 4-0-4-1. Only with the entry of Matthew McElhenny into the game at 5 down did St Georges begin to push for the runs. He top scored with 16, ably abetted by Maximilian Neubauer, not out on 12. When St George’s ran out of overs, with batsmen in hand, they were 29 runs short.
Thanks go to the organisers, Raymond Coory, Rosemary Hewitt, Chris Newton and Richard Burns, the latter two standing as the two umpires. The new league is a welcome addition to the DCB-NRWCU youth development programme.
