Yesterday’s two T20 Super Series games between the Northern Lights and the Alpine Tigers in Werder (Havel) saw each team picking up a win each in two very evenly matched games of cricket.
In the first game the Alpine Tigers batted first and chalked up a score of 134, losing their last wicket in the final over. Top scorers included U19 national team player Safi Schirchan (35) and national team all-rounder Wasantha De Silva (26). Israr Khan took an impressive 4-19 off his four overs.
The Northern Lights, who had picked up a win and a tie last week in Hamburg against the Western Eagles, started impressively with national team opener Kashif Mahmood scoring 26 and his opening partner Sajid Liyaqat getting 23. But, their dismissals led to a collapse and the Lights were all out for 120 after 19 overs. Pick of the bowlers was Wasantha with 3-19.
In the second game the Tigers batted first again but this time could only muster 114-7 off their 20 overs. Schirchan started impressively once more with a score of 47 and Israr Khan followed up his performance in the first game with three more wickets, which will surely have not gone unnoticed by the national team selectors.
The Northern Lights reply started well again, as another U19 national team player Janpreet Singh (13) and Vijay Narashiman (42) created a base that led them to their target in the 19th over. Prajakt Jardhav took 4-16 off 3 overs.
It is clear after two weekends of the DCB Super Series that all three teams are very equal and that we are in for some exciting cricket over the next few weeks.
Next week’s games take place in Erlangen on Saturday, again between the Lights and the Tigers.
