Players from all over the country met on Saturday, 8th September at the sportspark of ASV Köln to compete in the last tournament of the season. Some of the players arrived already on Friday night, as did the BCV team which got caught up in a complete closure of the A8 near Stuttgart and arrived at 4am on Saturday morning.

Nevertheless, the first match started with the hosts ASV taking on the team from BCV. The ASV captain Monika Loveday won the toss and decided to bowl on a field which was still wet at that time. The team from southern Germany decided to open their innings with Lubina Beresford and captain Steffi Frohnmayer.

ASV managed a solid start with M.Loveday opening the bowling with a maiden over and Kamal Samra taking the wicket of L.Beresford (0) in her first over. At the score of 27, Kerstin Wellershaus managed to bowl S.Frohnmayer (10). Milena Beresford (8) and Johanna Wassong (5)- at 12 years old the youngest player of the tournament – were able to build a good partnership of 45 runs, helped by a number of extras bowled by the home team. Although BCV lost another wicket with Tessa Harreiner (4), at the end of 16 overs, they had accumulated a solid score of 100 runs to defend.
The visiting team started the 2nd Innings also with a maiden over by T. Harreiner and a wicket in the first over by M. Beresford. All of the BCV bowlers performed excellent and gave the batswomen not much opportunity to score many runs. K.Wellershaus (5 n.o.) and Severina Bartoschek (2) offered more resistance than their individual scores reveal.

Result:
BCV 100 for 5 wickets (16 overs)
S.Frohnmayer 10, M. Beresford 8
M.Loveday 4-1-18-1, K. Sumar 2-0-15-1
ASV 65 for 5 wickets (16 overs)K.Wellershaus 5 n.o., S.Bartoschek 2
T. Harreiner 4-2-10-1, M.Beresford 4-1-8-1, L.Beresford 3-0-10-1
BCV win by 35 runs.

After a lunch break with barbeque and salads, the second match got underway between the guests from nothern Germany and the host ASV Köln. This time, the captain of NDCV won the toss and decided to bat first and sent their opener Franziska Ziegler and Medha Daub to the crease. The ASV team gave the new ball again to M.Loveday and their new player Peris Adhiambu which paid off almost straight away as they conceaded only 10 runs in the first 3 overs and in the 4th over, P.Adhiambu achieved the breakthrough by claiming the wicket of M. Daub (2). A change of bowlers had the desired effect as K. Wellershaus bowled F. Ziegler (4) cleanly. This brought Surbhi Kumar to the crease who tried to calm things down by playing more defensively but a miss-communication saw her being run out for only 1 run. Charly Porath approached her innings more aggressively and managed 5 runs before being bowled. Anna Leer added only 1 run before also being bowled. She was replaced by Amelie Claus and although she could not score many runs of the bat, she stayed and took advantage of extras. Sapna Kumar was not able to add to the score but NDCV’s new player Britta Geelvink managed in her first match ever to stay with A.Claus and scored 1 not out. At the end of the 1st innings, NDCV had scored 63 runs.
In reply, ASV sent K.Wellershaus (30 n.o.) and P.Adhiambu (9 n.o.) to open the batting, hoping that their aggressive and experienced batting would give the team a positive start. The two players exceeded all expectations by reaching the required total in the 9th over, claiming the first win for ASV this season.

Result:
NDCV 63 for 6 wickets (16 overs)
C. Porath 5, F. Ziegler 4
P. Adhiambu 4-1-13-3, K.Wellershaus 4-0-14-2
ASV 64 for 0 wickets (8.4 overs)
K.Wellershaus 30 n.o., P. Adhiambu 9 n.o.
C.Porath 3-0-20-0, S. Kumar 1.4-0-6-0
ASV win by 7 wickets

On Sunday, 9th September, the final between NDCV and BCV took place, again in glorious sunshine.

BCV captain S. Frohnmayer won the toss and chose to field first. The NDCV team decided to change their batting line up from the previous match and sent F.Ziegler together with C.Porath to open their innings. While F.Ziegler managed to get off to a good start with a boundary in the first over, C. Porath was bowled in the first over from S.Frohnmayer for one run. This brought M.Daub (9) to the crease who managed to build a partnership with F.Ziegler (13) before the latter was bowled by M.Beresford who was well supported by her team in the field. The new batswoman A. Leer batted with intent and scored important 16 runs to bring the total up to 82 runs.
After a short break, S.Frohnmayer and T.Harreiner opened the 2nd Innings for BCV against the bowling of S. Kumar and C. Porath. The pair from southern Germany batted positively and worked well together in placing shots into gaps, taking singles and scoring boundaries, too. After the 6th over, the score already totalled 62 runs. T.Harreiner (20) was not able to see the innings out and was bowled by F.Ziegler before the target was reached. S. Frohnmayer (26 n.o.) played a proper „Captain’s Innings“ and managed to carry her bat although edging a ball onto the side of her head while trying a pull-shot just before the end. Luckily she was not badly hurt and carried on to hit the winning run.

Result:
NDCV 82 for 3 wickets (16 overs)

F. Ziegler 13, M. Daub 9, A. Leer 16 n.o.
M. Beresford 4-0-22-2, S. Frohnmayer 4-0-12-1, T. Harreiner 4-0-15-0
BCV 83 for 2 wickets (10.4 overs)
S. Frohnmayer 26 n.o., T. Harreiner 20
S. Kumar 3-0-15-0, A. Leer 2-0-14-0, F. Ziegler 2.4-0-24-2
