ICC-Qualifikationsturnier der U19-Männer: Guernsey

Die deutsche U19 nahm vom 5. bis 12. August in Guernsey an den ICC U19 World Cup 2024 Qualifiers European Division 2 teil. Insgesamt nahmen 8 Teams an diesem Qualifikationsturnier teil (Guernsey, Italien, Dänemark, Schweden, Norwegen, Isle of Man, Frankreich und Deutschland).

U19 Men’s ICC Qualifiers : Guernsey

The German U19s participated in ICC U19 World Cup 2024 Qualifiers European Division 2 from August 5th to August 12th at Guernsey. A total of 8 Teams were part of this qualifying event (Guernsey, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Isle of Man, France & Germany). Out of which the top 3 teams qualify for Division 1. Since this is tournament was for U19 Cricket World Cup 2024, the Qualifying tournament was with U17 age group. At the end of this tournament Italy, Guernsey & Norway Qualified for Division 1.

During this event, we were little short of getting qualified for the European Division 1 but glimpses of some strong performances will always be remembered and it sets  an example for many budding players in Germany. The positives of this tournament was the bond the players developed and with each game their awareness on the field grew. Some of the highlights were Niall Perfect’s century and 5 Wickets in the same match against France as well as another 5fer the next day. Jonathan Thorne also had a good run with the bat, scoring 2 50s in the tournament.

Throughout Germany around 110-120 boys took part in selection trials in beginning of the year. Out of which 24 were shortlisted and final squad of 14 players took part in WC Qualifiers at Guernsey. Seeing as almost 70% of the players are either born in Germany or have German roots, the future of men’s cricket looks promising.
